Dear Ellie,
You were born on December 1st, 2009--about 3 weeks early. You were 6 pounds 11 ounces and 19 inches long. We named you Eliana Susan Bennett. Eliana means "God has answered me." Both of your grandmothers are named Susan. We call you Ellie for short.
You were sick when you were born, and they took you by ambulance to a hospital 40 minutes away. Your dad went with you, but I wasn't allowed to go. I missed you so much that first night! We spent the next couple of weeks at the NICU hoping every day that you'd be okay and that we'd be able to take you home soon.
When we finally brought you home, Krista had decorated our house for Christmas. But the best Christmas present was to have you home. You were very fussy. Grandma Bennett thought you had colic--and sure enough, she was right. Grandma Good came to stay with us and help us out for a week. You were so beautiful, but so mad all the time. We did everything we could think of to help you be happy.

Mommy stayed home from work until the end of January. Your favorite aunt Krista came over and learned all about how to take care of you. She watched you when I had to go back to work. She was like your second "Mommy". You started to have good days and bad days, and eventually most days were good. You grew out of your colic phase at around 4 months. But of course, then you started teething, and that made you fussy, too. Krista was a saint for taking care of you so well.
We watched as you learned how to grasp toys, roll over, sit up, eat baby food, scoot backwards, crawl forwards, and pull yourself up to standing. I got to spend my summer vacation being a full-time mommy to you. It has been the best summer ever!
Tomorrow you will be eight months old, and you are so much happier than you used to be. We love your smile, your laugh, and your babbling. We don't much care for your ear-splitting, high-pitched squeal, or your distaste for napping and sleeping through the night. You are my favorite baby, and I love you so much! I can't wait to see the beautiful girl that you are to become!
Love,
Mom

Okay I'm not that vain...
I named my blog The "Good" Bennett. That sounds pretty vain. But, I tease my husband that I'm the only "Good" Bennett in the family. Of course, that is only because my maiden name is Good. I promise I'm really not stuck on myself. And the rest of the Bennett family aren't just good--they are super!
Two of my sisters have blogs that I love to read as often as they can post. Being a new mom, and not being the journaling/scrapbooking type, I figured that creating my own blog might help me remember my adventures in parenting and some of my baby girl's first experiences in life.
I'm pretty clueless when it comes to "mommy" kinds of things. Without babycenter.com and a few good baby books at home, I'm not sure Ellie would have survived this long. One thing I think I am good at is sharing my musical talents with my sweet little one. So, while I chronicle my experiences with Ellie, I plan on giving some advice to other moms who read this about singing, dancing, and playing musically with your children.
So... I guess I'm officially a blogger now! Good times, good times!
